AC/DC Are 'Back' Again: Hard-Rockers Announce 17th Studio AlbumAccording to a post on AC/DC's Web site, the Australian rockers are ready to shake things up once again. After an eight-year hiatus, the veteran musicians announced plans today to release their 17th studio album later this year. ![]() The band is working with producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Velvet Revolver),
No tour details have been announced thus far, but when asked by a DJ on L.A. radio station 97.1 KLSX Free FM if the band might hit the road, lead vocalist Brian Johnson reportedly replied, "I would probably thinks so, yeah. I always hate to say yes in case something happens, but I really do think we will be out there – everybody's enjoying being back together again, and the buzz is still there and the excitement. Mal [Malcolm Young] and Ang [Angus Young] are still just electric on their guitars, and Phil [Rudd]'s got the old magic on the drums, and Cliff Williams is Mr. Reliable on bass – he's brilliant – and it's just been fun. It's like a bunch of old [friends] getting together again and having a great time." This album, currently untitled, will be the first to be released by Sony BMG's Epic Records, which reissued the bands back catalog in 2003. AC/DC are known for such hard-rock battle-cries as "Highway to Hell," "Back in Black" and the crossover hit "You Shook Me All Night Long," which, incidentally, according to a recent poll by Mobile Beat magazine, was the top song played at U.S. wedding receptions in 2007. AC/DC have sold an estimated 150 million albums worldwide, 69 million in the U.S. alone. Back in Black has sold an estimated 42 million copies worldwide and 22 million in the US, making it the fifth-highest-selling album of all time.
